MINI Surprise from Espressif!

Espressif’s new MINI series of modules currently comprises ESP32-S2-MINI-1 and ESP32-S2-MINI-1U, while more modules will be included soon.

Shanghai, China, August 28, 2020

Espressif Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (SSE: 688018.SH), today announced the launch of its new ESP32-S2-MINI series of modules. The series currently consists of ESP32-S2-MINI-1 and ESP32-S2-MINI-1U, which are two powerful, generic Wi-Fi MCU modules with a rich set of peripherals. They are an ideal choice for a wide variety of application scenarios relating to the Internet of Things, wearable electronics and smart home.

Module Chip embedded Flash Dimensions [mm]
ESP32-S2-MINI-1 (PCB) ESP32-S2  4MB 15.4 x 20.0 x 2.4 (+/-0.15)
ESP32-S2-MINI-1U (IPEX) ESP32-S2  4MB 15.4 x 15.4 x 2.4 (+/-0.15)

ESP32-S2-MINI-1 comes with a PCB antenna, whereas ESP32-S2-MINI-1U with an IPEX antenna. They both feature a 4-MB embedded SPI flash.

At the core of the ESP32-S2-MINI modules is ESP32-S2FH4, an Xtensa® 32-bit LX7 CPU that operates at up to 240 MHz. This chip has a low-power co-processor that can be used instead of the CPU, in order to save power while performing tasks that do not require much computing power, such as the monitoring of peripherals. ESP32-S2FH4 has up to 43 GPIOs and integrates various peripherals, such as SPI, I2S, UART, I2C, LED PWM, LCD, camera interface, ADC, DAC, touch sensor and temperature sensor. ESP32-S2FH4 also includes a full-speed USB On-The-Go (OTG) interface which enables USB communication in any place, at any time.

ESP32-S2 MINI modules and development boards will get into mass production in December 2020. However, ESP32-S2-MINI-1 and ESP32-S2-MINI-1U are undergoing FCC, CE, SRRC certifications, which will make them fully compliant with the health, safety, and environmental protection standards set by the United States’ Federal Communications Commission, the European Economic Area and the State Radio Regulations of China, respectively. The completion date for the above-mentioned certifications is expected at the end of November 2020, in time for the products to go into mass production the following month. What’s more, modules from the ESP32, ESP32-S3, and ESP32-C3 series will also be included in our MINI series. So, stay tuned for more news!
